Flight Simulator to Boost Libraries Mastery
What does flying a plane have to do with writing C++ documentation? For Peter Turcan, quite a lot.
Peter is a Senior Technical Writer at the C++ Alliance. Before that, he spent years working on documentation for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
The problem was simple: how could he write accurately about instruments, approaches, and flight systems if he didn’t understand them?
So he taught himself to fly.
That same philosophy shapes his work today.
For Peter, technical writing isn’t about dumping information onto a page. It’s about understanding something deeply enough to explain it clearly, precisely, and efficiently.
At the C++ Alliance, he writes and edits content for developers who already know C++ but may be new to Boost libraries.
His goal is to bridge that gap without wasting the reader’s time.
“Technical people want a precise answer. Brevity is important.”
Peter also brings an adventurous mindset to everything he does — hiking, kayaking, skiing, and approaching technology from the top down rather than the bottom up.
His philosophy is straightforward:
“It’s the difference between doing a job and doing a job well.”
