Is This the Future of WG21?
Mungo Gill, a representative of the Irish National Body at the C++ ISO Standardization Committee and a member of the C++ Alliance, describes his path from studying pure mathematics and working on fingerprint recognition to joining C++ community standardization efforts. He recounts being recruited during COVID through a connection to John Lakos at Bloomberg, where library work revealed performance gains that relied on behavior technically undefined by the C++ standard but not enforced by compilers, highlighting why ISO C++ must strictly define what is allowed. Gill explains that the C++ Alliance is submitting proposal papers to WG21 and notes Vinnie Falco’s role in driving submissions and presenting ideas, amid time pressure around the May mailing deadline before the June WG21 meeting.
