The Untold Story of Shipping C++20!
Marshall Clow on Shipping C++20 and His Journey in the C++ Community
Marshall Clow, the first staff engineer hired by the C++ Alliance, says he's proudest of the Alliance completing and shipping C++20, describing an intense final year of work and his decision to step down as Library Working Group (LWG) chair after finishing his five-year term. He recounts being laid off at Qualcomm and being recruited by Bini to support the C++ ecosystem through Boost, LLVM, and the standards committee, areas in which Clow was already involved. He explains how a presentation changed his career path, leading to work on Boost, libc++, joining the standards committee, and becoming LWG chair. He recalls receiving a standing ovation from about 140 committee members as a gratifying moment of belonging.
