Progress in Programming: The C++ Alliance and Keeping Boost Moving
Louis Tatta shares how the C++ Alliance, founded in 2017 as a nonprofit, helps the C++ programming language by giving experienced open-source contributors the chance to work full-time on the libraries they’ve created—especially in parts of Boost—without having to worry about compensation. He describes the organization’s growth from one employee to 10 on payroll and 14 on contract, and how a remote team spread across time zones stays connected through Slack, huddles, and video calls to collaborate and ship quality work. Tatta also talks about working with his cousin, C++ Alliance founder Vinnie Falco, keeping family and business separate, and moving from Miami to California to be closer. By 2026, he says, the Alliance is viewed as a steady, trusted presence in the C++ and Boost communities, with a focus on educating the next generation.
