From Genetics to Graphs: Arnaud Becheler on Boost.Graph & the C++ Community

Libraries C++ Alliance | 5 min Posted on June 30, 2026

Arnaud Becheler shares his experience at CppCon 2025 in Denver, Colorado, and talks about his ongoing work modernizing the Boost.Graph library; made possible with support from the C++ Alliance.

Arnaud reflects on meeting many of the C++ community figures whose books and code he'd long studied, and on the shift from being a consumer of the community's resources to becoming a contributor.

Coming from a background in genetics, Arnaud uses C++ to build simulation frameworks for complex datasets, where managing massive graphs, representing relationships between huge numbers of entities, is a central challenge. Over the next one to two years he plans to modernize Boost.Graph, with the longer-term ambition of building a "Boost Genetics" project, since so much data in that field naturally takes a graph structure.

He's also organizing a Boost.Graph Modernization Workshop to bring together current and prospective users of the library and encourage the exchange of knowledge. Throughout, Arnaud highlights the C++ community and the C++ Alliance as an inspiring force that connects people across industries.
