The Future is NOW! C++ Next Generation of Programmers!
The Future of Boost Libraries, Review, and the People Behind C++
Rubén Pérez, a staff engineer at the C++ Alliance and the author of Boost.MySQL, who also maintains Boost.Redis, reflects on his path into C++ programming, from asking for a C++ book at age 10 to a life-changing robotics project using Python and C++. He describes learning through hands-on work and how formal review brings diverse feedback from people in different fields, shaping a library from multiple angles. Pérez shares his view that not every library belongs in the C++ standard, which should focus on core fundamentals, while Boost can evolve to provide many libraries useful for particular situations. He notes the C++ Alliance’s work on projects including standardizing a coroutine framework and emphasizes that people drive making C++ better, including the unexpected possibility of being paid to maintain open source software.
